Kloster

The district Kloster in the north of the town Bad Salzungen, below the artificial ruin Burg Frankenstein, looks back on a long and historically valuable history, which is centred around the former monastery, the Frankenstein or the old brewery.

Kloster was incorporated into Bad Salzungen in 1950 and celebrated its 750th anniversary in 2016. Remains of the medieval nunnery, from which the district got its name, can still be seen today.

Today its many associations and the proximity to nature and recreation as an attractive home for young and old characterize the village.

Excursion destination Frankenstein

The Frankenstein is a sight of the district. It is not only a popular hiking destination and a place for events and celebrations, but also a place to discover and learn. The Green Classroom, which was newly built in 2017, plays a decisive role here.

The small tower of the Kunstruine Burg Frankenstein also offers a magnificent view of the Thuringian Forest, the Werratal, the front Rhön and the Hessian mountains.

Living village centre

Directly in the Kloster district there is a sports field with a sports home and a large village community centre for celebrations and clubs. In 2018 the village square in the town centre, where the monastery brewery once stood, was redesigned.

Kloster has a lively club life. Not only the biggest carnival club of the city Bad Salzungen, the KCK, is active here - also the sports club SG Empor Kloster, which, for example, plays in the sport Flag Football in the German Bundesliga, has its domicile here.
